Seen through the can crusher the face of Robert Themba behind a sardine can illustrates his initiative & imagination in creating something from nothing. The Gomolemo Clean Environment Project in Ikageng Township on the outskirts of Potchefstroom in the North West Province of South Africa is a fine example of innovation & enterprise. Providing work for previously unemployed local people the eco friendly project also helps keep South Africa tidy. Each day workers go out & literally clean up the environment by collecting bottles & cans for recycling. Bottles are washed & then cut & turned into drinking glasses that are sold. Cans are crushed & sold to recycling depots. The money made is equally shared with all involved in the project.
